There has been a lot skepticism about gas powered generators and conversion of gasoline generators to gas, especially in this season of change. People have been asking a lot of questions pertaining to the efficiency and safety of the device.
We’ve come up with the following answers compiled from series of consultation from the experts in the industry. We are sure it will be beneficial if you intend to save cost on power and go the route of gas powered generators.
Yes, it is a technology used in developed countries to power engines because gas is cheaper than petrol and diesel. Its been available in Nigeria for a long time, but not popular because people are skeptical and had no reason to embrace it because of the reasonably cheap cost of petrol compared to gas.
The technology started trending recently because of the increase in pump price of gasoline.
Yes, it is very safe to use and does not pose any threat to human life and property or animals. Provided it was converted with the right device and installed by a hands on experienced professional.
It works by the installation of a specially designed conversion kit. Which is what we sell and install.
Depending on the amount of load you use on it, you may get up to 150 hours of consumption for low power consumption appliances but when you increase the number of appliances on it, this increases the gas consumed and can reduce the number of hours but it is still up to 3 times more economical than petrol.
The normal precautions you would maintain when using a Petrol powered generator or using Gas Burners in the kitchen:
1. Do not allow children play around it,
2. Avoid gas leakages
3. Don’t place Cylinder directly near exhaust.
4. Put some distance between the gas cylinder and the generator, at least 5yards of hose will do.
You would still start it the normal way by pulling it with a rope or starting it with a key depending on the type of generator you are using.
As often as possible but we would recommend you allow your generator rest after using it for up to 6hours to allow the generator last longer.
We make use of reinforced hose if we are the one installing it from the scratch. We also ensure the use of very tight Clip to avoid every form of leakages. However, if you notice weakening of the hose at any point in time, you can change the hose to avoid leakages
You can only use it for a generators from 2.0KV to 10KV. However it cannot work with the 950VA Tiger Generator popularly known as “I better pass my neighbour”
There is no special maintenance procedure other than the usual maintenance of your generator and servicing it from time to time the way you do when you were on petrol generator.
Yes, you can switch back to petrol at any point in time if you no longer want to use gas. There is also a tri conversion kit that allows you to run on both gas and gasoline.
